The former residence of Quan Zuwang is a Qing Dynasty–era building located in Quanjia, Shagang Village, Dongqiao Town. The residence faces east and consists of a row of five connected buildings. The entire structure spans 19.70 meters in width and extends 10.60 meters in depth. The central living room is 4.90 meters wide, while the side rooms are each 3.40 meters wide. The roof features a flush-gable style, with upturned eaves on the southern side. To the west of the residence, there used to be a three-bay ancestral hall of the Quan family facing south, but it has now collapsed. Only a plaque inscribed with the name “Chide Hall” remains. According to local elders, this was the former home of Xieshan Gong (Quan Zuwang).

Quan Zuwang (1705–1755), courtesy name Shaoyi and literary name Xieshan, was a native of Yinzhou District. A renowned historian of the Qing Dynasty, he became a Jinshi (advanced scholar) in the first year of the Qianlong reign. Throughout his life, he was known for his integrity and strong moral principles. Academically, he admired Huang Zongxi and authored over 30 works comprising more than 400 essays, many of which are compiled in the “Jiejiao Ting Collection.” He also continued the compilation of the “Songs and Learning Cases of the Song and Yuan Dynasties,” proofread and annotated the “Commentary on the Water Classic” and “Records of Hard Study,” and expanded the “Poetry of the Elders of Yongzhou,” all of which are treasured works in Chinese literary history.

In 2007, it was designated as a Cultural Relics Protection Unit at the eighth batch of district level in Yinzhou District, and in 2016, following an adjustment in Ningbo’s administrative divisions, it came under the jurisdiction of Haishu District.

In 1736, the first year of the Qianlong reign, he was recommended as a candidate for the Broad Learning and Eminent Literature examination and also passed the imperial examination that same year, subsequently being selected as a Hanlin Bachelor. He returned home the following year and did not pursue an official career afterward, dedicating himself to writing. He once served as head instructor at Jishan Academy in Zhejiang and Duanxi Academy in Guangdong. Quan Zuwang carried forward the pragmatic scholarship of Huang Zongxi from the early Qing period.
