Jukui Li Stone Archway

The Jukui Li Stone Archway is a cultural heritage site protected by Haishu District.

The Jukui Li Archway is located in front of Fengpeng Temple, Xiyang Village, Shiqi Subdistrict, Haishu District, and is a Ming Dynasty structure. This is a single-eaved, hip-and-gable roof archway supported by two pillars, entirely built of stone. The total height is 4 meters, and the width is 3.45 meters. The main ridge is adorned with mythical beast ornaments, and the double-sloped roof is covered with tubular tiles laid in an interlocking pattern. The eaves feature carved tile drips, while the four corners have gently upturned eaves. Bracket sets (dougong) decorate the area between the column tops and horizontal beams. Both sides of the beam are inscribed with the three regular-script Chinese characters “聚魁里” (Jukui Li), with additional inscriptions on the front side reading “Yang Shouchen, First Place in the Zhejiang Provincial Imperial Examination, First Year of the Jingtai Era”, “Yang Shouzhi, Second Place in the Zhejiang Provincial Imperial Examination, First Year of the Chenghua Era”, and “□First Place, Second Place”. The reverse side features inscriptions on the upper part: “Wang Ping, Investigating Censor of Zhejiang Provincial Surveillance Commission”, “Li Xing, Prefect of Ningbo”, and “Han Pu, Magistrate of Yin County”, while the lower part reads “Erected by Yang Maoyuan, Vice Surveillance Commissioner of Huguang Provincial Surveillance Commission, on an auspicious day in the ninth month of the fifth year of the Hongzhi Era”.

Yang Shouchen and Yang Shouzhi were brothers of similar learning and virtue. This archway was erected by their son Yang Maoyuan in honor of his father and uncle.

On April 5, 2005, it was announced as a cultural relic protection unit under the seventh batch of Yinzhou District’s designations. In May, with the construction of the Ningbo Ring Expressway in the area, the archway was relocated from the back channel of Houmenfan in Xiyang Village to a spot 20 meters in front of Fengpeng Temple, its current location. In 2016, following an administrative division adjustment in Ningbo, it was placed under the jurisdiction of Haishu District.
