Stone Carvings Along the Tomb Path of Zhou Hongyu

The stone carvings along the tomb path of Zhou Hongyu are a cultural relic protected at the district level in Haishu District.

The tomb of Zhou Hongyu dates back to the Ming Dynasty. It is located at Laohufentan, southwest of Xuejia Village, Gulin Town. Zhou Hongyu served as the Dean of the Directorate of Education and concurrently as an Academician of the Hanlin Academy during the Ming Dynasty.

The tomb site covers an area of approximately 150 square meters. The tomb chamber and the spirit way archway were destroyed during the Cultural Revolution, but the stone carvings remain intact. The stone carvings, arranged from south to north, include a stone sheep, stone tiger, and civil official statues, all standing in pairs. The civil official statue stands 2.50 meters tall with shoulders 0.85 meters wide. The stone sheep is 1.05 meters tall and 1.25 meters long. The stone tiger is 1.15 meters tall and 0.85 meters long. This group of sculptures features bold lines and lifelike forms. Additionally, there is one white marble tomb epitaph and one carved seal cover (both currently kept in a villager’s home in Xuejia Village).

In September 2007, it was designated as a cultural relic protected at the district level under the eighth batch of Yinzhou District, and in 2016, it was transferred to Haishu District following the administrative division adjustment of Ningbo City.

Xuejia Village: Located in the eastern part of Gulin Town, Xuejia Village lies in the suburbs of Ningbo City. It borders Haishu District on the northeast and is adjacent to the Airport Elevated Road to the east and the Hangzhou–Ningbo Expressway to the south, offering very convenient transportation and a prime location. As the largest administrative village in Yinzhou District, Xuejia Village consists of 10 natural villages, covering a total area of 4.5 square kilometers. It currently has 1,632 households, with a registered population of 4,556, and arable land spanning 441 mu.
