Qianjin Hall was established during the Republican era when the Ningbo city wall was demolished, unearthing a large number of ancient bricks dating from the Han and Jin dynasties onward. Many knowledgeable individuals sought to collect these treasures, among whom scholar Ma Lian acquired the most, amassing over a thousand Jin dynasty bricks alone. His collection room was named Qianjin Hall, which he later donated to Tianyi Pavilion. Tianyi Pavilion then set up a special exhibition room that retained the name. Later, the “Famous Historical Figures and Tianyi Pavilion” exhibition room shared the space in a joint display.

In 1994, the Ningbo Museum merged with the Tianyi Pavilion Cultural Relics Protection Office to establish the Tianyi Pavilion Museum. Located next to the picturesque Moon Lake, it is China’s oldest surviving library building, the oldest library in Asia, and one of the three oldest family-run libraries in the world. Today, it has expanded into three major functional zones: book culture, exhibitions, and garden leisure, integrating book culture, social history, and art and culture. It has become a window showcasing the historical and cultural heritage of Ningbo.

Tianyi Community: The Tianyi Community area spans approximately 0.26 square kilometers, with its eastern boundary along Yanyue Street, southern border at Liuting Street, western edge along Changchun Road, and northern limit by Sanbanqiao Street.

The Tianyi Community Residents' Committee was established on June 23, 2001. The jurisdiction includes 2,213 households with a registered population of over 5,800, including around 3,307 permanent residents and over 1,100 temporary residents. There are 1,218 residents aged 60 and above. The community has 32 residential buildings (a mix of older and newer structures) and 105 traditional lane houses.
