Haishu Park

Haishu Park is located near Xiaowen Street and is a historic public park where many elderly people come to exercise in the morning. The over 20 cherry blossom trees planted in the park were gifts from Nagahama City, Japan, to Ningbo when the two cities became sister cities 25 years ago.

On April 21, 1983, the Ningbo Friendship Delegation visited Nagahama City, Japan, and established a sister-city relationship with Nagahama on that day. From October 6 to 9 of the same year, a ten-member delegation from Nagahama City paid a return friendship visit to Ningbo. The cherry blossom grove in Haishu Park consists of over 20 trees and is the largest such grove in any urban park in the city. These cherry trees were gifted by the Japanese side when Ningbo and Nagahama City became sister cities. Haishu Park is situated along Beidou River in the western part of the city, built in a strip shape along the river and running parallel to Wangjing Road across the water. It is divided into a southern and a northern section, covering a total area of 2.32 hectares. The southern section occupies 5,887 square meters and was opened to the public in October 1983. The northern section spans 17,316 square meters and opened in January 1988.
