Tomb of Zhu Bei

The Tomb of Zhu Bei is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Zhejiang Province.

The Tomb of Zhu Bei is located in Miaojia'ao, Simingshan Village, Jishigang Town, Haishu District, Ningbo City, and dates back to the Ming Dynasty. The entire structure is built layer by layer along the mountain from east to west, ascending progressively, with an elevation difference of about 9.8 meters between the front and back, a total length of approximately 60 meters, a maximum width of about 12 meters, and a total area of around 720 m². The tomb faces east with its back to the west. At the very front is a memorial archway, featuring four pillars and three bays, with a total width of 6.5 meters; the central bay’s pillars are 5.72 meters high and carved with stone lions, while the side bays’ pillars are 2.71 meters high. Each bay features high-relief carvings on the crossbeams. Though slightly damaged, they still retain a sense of the original exquisite craftsmanship. Behind the archway is a small bridge, followed by a pathway and platform that form a "T"-shaped stage, a round-mouthed platform, a long horizontal platform, and the burial chamber. The burial chamber is a stone crypt constructed from large slabs, with its four corners connected by cloud-patterned tenons. It contains four chambers arranged together for one body and one coffin each. Behind the chambers, the tomb is encircled by a stone wall, with three horse-head-shaped wing walls on both sides following the mountain slope, and the ridge tiles decorated with coin patterns. A retaining wall surrounds the back, and a patrol path is set between the retaining wall and the tomb wall, serving both ventilation and drainage purposes as well as facilitating ritual circumambulation during visits.

Zhu Bei, styled Bosheng and also known as Yuqiao, became a successful candidate in the highest imperial examinations in the second year of the Tianqi era (1622) and was appointed as the magistrate of Anfu County.

The tomb is well-preserved. In January 2017, the Tomb of Zhu Bei was designated as part of the seventh batch of provincial-level cultural heritage protection units.
