Former Site of the Private Yongjiang Girls' School

The former site of the Private Yongjiang Girls' School is a Zhejiang Provincial Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

The former site of the Private Yongjiang Girls' School is located at No. 106 Heyi Road, Haishu District, Ningbo City, on the southern bank of the Yao River. In January 2017, it was designated as part of the seventh batch of Provincial-Level Cultural Relics Protection Units.

The surviving original structures include the teaching building and the gymnasium, which were built in the 11th year of the Republic of China (1922). These are modern Western-style buildings facing east and situated to the west, with the gymnasium being the first indoor gymnasium in Ningbo.

The predecessor of the Private Yongjiang Girls' School was a girls' school established in 1844 by Ms. Aldersay, sent by the British "Society for Promoting Female Education in the East." It was the first girls' school set up by foreign missionaries in China. The Yongjiang Girls' School played a pioneering role in the modernization of education in China. The former site of the Private Yongjiang Girls' School serves as a physical resource for studying the history of education in Ningbo and holds significant historical value. It now houses the Ningbo Education Museum.
