Shangsheng Yongji Bridge

Shangsheng Yongji Bridge is a cultural relic protection unit of Haishu District.

Shangsheng Yongji Bridge, also known as Banlu'an Bridge, is located at the southern end of Banlu'an in Lugang Village, Gaoqiao Town, Haishu District. It was built in the first year of the Qianlong reign during the Qing Dynasty (1736) and rebuilt in the ninth year of the Guangxu reign (1883).

The bridge is a stone single-arch structure, oriented from north to south, spanning both sides of the Hou Tang River in western Yinxian. It is 25.54 meters in total length, 4 meters wide, with an arch height of 6.15 meters and a span of 8.64 meters. The bridge is flanked by railings and balusters, with carved stone lions on the pillars. Each end of the railing features a drum stone. There are 32 steps on both the southern and northern approaches. The bridge’s inscription reads “Shangsheng Yongji Bridge.” On the eastern side, the inscription states, “Rebuilt through donations in the year of Guangxu Guiwei (1883), by local residents ×××.” The western side is inscribed with, “Constructed in the year of Qianlong Bingchen (1736) during the Great Qing, by Chen Erkang.”

A land god shrine, facing east and situated on the northeast bank of the bridge, houses an inscribed stone tablet. To the east of the northern bridge abutment extends a row of pavilion-style buildings known as the “Banlu'an Pavilion.” It is said that there were originally two rows, but the other row was demolished in the 1970s when a supply and marketing cooperative was built.

With a history of several hundred years, the bridge is currently well-preserved and stands as one of the more typical stone arch bridges in the waterway regions of southern China, possessing notable heritage value. In September 2010, it was designated as part of the ninth batch of district-level cultural relics protection units in Yinzhou District. In 2016, following the adjustment of Ningbo’s administrative divisions, it was placed under the jurisdiction of Haishu District.
