Wujin Sluice

Wujin Sluice is a cultural heritage site protected by Haishu District.

Wujin Sluice is located on the eastern side of Shangshui Sluice Village in Dongqiao Town, Haishu District. It was constructed during the Tang Dynasty's Taihe era by Yin County magistrate Wang Yuanwei, underwent renovations in the sixth year of the Yuanyou era of the Song Dynasty (1091), was repaired again in the fourteenth year of the Jiading era (1221), and was further restored in the thirteenth year of the Republic of China (1924) through funding by local gentry Zhu Bingfan and Zhang Chuanbao. The surviving sluice structure is 14.9 meters long, with a bridge width of 2.75 meters, featuring five bays spaced 2.8 meters apart. The sluice gates are reinforced with reinforced concrete atop stone slots and utilize flat-plate gates with screw-lift mechanisms. Situated downstream of the Tashan Weir, this sluice was the first supporting facility for water diversion and flood discharge when the Tashan Weir was built during the Tang Dynasty. Since its completion, it has continuously served to block floods and retain freshwater. Originally, its bays were navigable, but during the Republic of China repairs, they were converted to cement gates. Currently, the sluice is well-preserved. In September 2010, it was designated as part of the ninth batch of district-level cultural heritage sites in Yinzhou District, and after the 2016 administrative division adjustment of Ningbo City, it was incorporated into Haishu District.
