Ma'angang Ancient Stone Quarry Site

The Ma'angang Ancient Stone Quarry Site is a cultural heritage site protected at the district level in Haishu.

The Ma'angang Ancient Stone Quarry Site is situated on the mountainside of Ma'angang Mountain in Tashanyu Village, Yinjiang Town, Haishu District. It is approximately 500 meters in a straight line from the national heritage site Tashan Weir and is a quarrying site formed from artificial stone extraction during the Tang Dynasty. The eastern opening is about 2–3 meters high, the western opening about 5 meters high, and the interior of the cave extends roughly 30 meters with the east and west sections interconnected, forming a concave shape. The stones at the western opening have begun to show signs of weathering. In the 1970s, when local villagers were leveling the land, they discovered a gravel path about 3 meters wide leading down the mountain. Given that the stone quality of this path matches that of the Tashan Weir, it is believed that this gravel road was once an ancient route used by stonemasons to transport stone materials, serving as evidence of the stonework for the Tashan Weir. During the Anti-Japanese War, local residents also took refuge here to escape Japanese atrocities such as burning, killing, and looting.

The discovery of this stone quarry site is of great value for researching the history of the Tashan Weir and the stone carving history of Yinzhou. It also stands as a witness to the Japanese invasion and a shelter for local people during that time, holding significant historical importance. In 2010, it was designated as the ninth batch of district-level cultural heritage sites in Yinzhou District, and in 2016, it was placed under the jurisdiction of Haishu District following an adjustment in Ningbo’s administrative divisions.

Tashanyu Village: Tashanyu Village is located in the center of Yinjiang Town and consists of three natural villages. The village has a total of 783 households and a population of 1,724. It covers a cultivated area of 1,306 mu and a total forested area of 2,400 mu. There are 50 Party members, divided among 16 villager groups, with a total of 56 villager representatives.

Tashanyu Village gets its name from the Tashan Weir, one of China’s four great ancient hydraulic engineering projects.
