Henggang’an Site

The Henggang’an Site is a cultural heritage site protected at the district level in Haishu District.

The Henggang’an Site is located at Henggang’an in Yaojia Natural Village, Sanxing Village, Gulin Town, Haishu District, at the confluence of the Henggang River, Qinglong River, and Sanlian River. It lies about 120 meters southwest of Xiachen Village to the east and approximately 800 meters from Lujia Bridge. The site is roughly 210 meters long from north to south and 100 meters wide from east to west, with a total area of 20,000 square meters. The area around the site is crisscrossed with rivers, and the surface consists of flat, open farmland. Archaeological surveys indicate that the stratigraphic features of this site are largely similar to those of the Lujia Bridge Site and can also be divided into five layers. The unearthed pottery fragments are predominantly made of clay-based red pottery, followed by gray pottery, with black pottery being the least common. All decorations are plain, and a significant number of wood shavings, wood blocks, and carbon chunks were found—features that are similar to the Lujia Bridge Site. However, remains such as rice husks and straw are less frequently encountered here compared to the Lujia Bridge Site. Although the two sites are not far apart, they share a high degree of cultural similarity while also exhibiting certain differences.

The Henggang’an Site is a cultural site from the same period as the Lujia Bridge Site. Its discovery has greatly enriched the cultural significance of the Lujia Bridge Site and further confirms that this area was one of the earliest settlements in our district. It holds considerable reference value for the study of the region’s history. In 2010, it was designated as part of the ninth batch of district-level cultural heritage sites in Yinzhou District, and in 2016, it was incorporated into Haishu District following an administrative division adjustment in Ningbo City.

Sanxing Village: Located in the western part of Gulin Town, Sanxing Village is about 20 kilometers from downtown Ningbo and 8 kilometers from Yusu Airport. In April 2004, the village was formed through the merger of Wengyao, Huihushan, and Shangxia Chen, and was named Sanxing Village. The village covers a total area of 2.3 square kilometers, with over 1,600 mu of arable land and 417 mu of forested land. The main crops grown include rice, wheat, and sedge, supplemented by cash crops such as watermelon, grapes, and strawberries. The per capita disposable income of farmers has been increasing year by year. The village has a registered total of 582 households and a population of 1,481.
