Former Site of the Yuanshigou “Mansion”

The former site of the Yuanshigou “Mansion” is a cultural relic protection unit of Haishu District.

The former site of the Yuanshigou Mansion is located on the west side of Yuanshigou in Laoshe Natural Village, Huimin Village, Hengjie Town, Haishu District. According to veteran revolutionary Weng Shaochu, it was built in 1945. The above-ground structures of the mansion no longer exist, leaving only a ground platform and some remaining wall structures. The entire site is 11 meters long from east to west and 4.6 meters wide from north to south, with a flat surface. The walls were built from naturally formed stone blocks, laid closely together. The area where the mansion once stood has now become a bamboo forest.

In 1945, as part of the New Fourth Army’s northern retreat from southern Jiangsu, to avoid attacks by the Kuomintang and to continue underground resistance, some soldiers from the 3rd and 5th Detachments were forced to move into the mountains, establishing camps deep within the dense forests. These camps were euphemistically called “mansions,” and the Yuanshigou Mansion was one such site built at that time.

The discovery of this mansion provides another valuable physical example for studying the revolutionary history of our region, and it holds significant historical educational value. It was designated as the ninth batch of district-level cultural relic protection units of Yinzhou District in 2010, and was incorporated into Haishu District following the 2016 administrative division adjustment of Ningbo City.
