Huanhua Bridge

Huanhua Bridge is a cultural heritage site protected by Haishu District.

Huanhua Bridge is located in Fenglin Village, Hengjie Town, Haishu District. According to Records of Peach Blossom Spring Township: “Huanhua Bridge, also called Liuhua Bridge, lies east of Wan’an Bridge. It was jointly built in the sixth year of the Qiandao era (1170) during the Song Dynasty by Fan Sui, the wine tax supervisor, and local villagers. In those days, peach blossoms lined both banks of the stream up to this point.” This indicates that the bridge was originally constructed during the Southern Song Dynasty.

The bridge spans the Huanxi River from north to south, and is a three-arch stone beam flat bridge supported by two piers. Its piers are uniquely built using three thin slabs of stone erected vertically, with the western edge of each slab thinner to form a cutwater that helps reduce the impact of upstream floodwaters on the piers. The bridge is 16.16 meters long and 2 meters wide. The deck is paved with 2–3 irregular flagstones, and while the original structure had no railings, white steel pipe guardrails have now been installed on both sides for pedestrian safety.

With a long history, the bridge has witnessed the development of Lin Village, an important town in western Yin County since the Song Dynasty. To this day, it remains a vital route for local villagers’ daily life and production. In September 2010, it was designated as a Cultural Heritage Site under the ninth batch of district-level protections by Yinzhou District. Following the 2016 administrative division adjustment of Ningbo City, it was placed under the jurisdiction of Haishu District.

Fenglin Village: Located in the western part of Ningbo City, Fenglin Village in Hengjie Town is 0.5 kilometers from the Hengjie Town government. The Wangtong Highway runs alongside the village, offering convenient transportation, a pleasant environment, and beautiful scenery. The village covers a total area of 1.47 square kilometers, with a registered population of 293 households and 735 people, along with over 2,000 non-local residents and temporary inhabitants. The village has 646 mu of arable land and 135 mu of forested land, divided among 9 villager groups. There are 32 Party members and 34 villager representatives.
