Ancient Dong Bridge

Ancient Dong Bridge is a cultural heritage site protected by Haishu District.

Ancient Dong Bridge is situated on Zhuangjiaxi Stream in Zhuangjiaxi Natural Village, Zhuangjiaxi Village, Hengjie Town, Haishu District. Originally named Cui Shan Temple Bridge, it was first built during the Song Dynasty. According to the "Yinzhou General Annals": “In the 12th year of the Republic of China (1923), local resident Li Shenglei raised funds to renovate the bridge. It spans the upper stream of Zhuangjiaxi Stream, connecting Jiangcun Ridge to the north and Cui Shan Temple to the south. The Guangxu Annals refer to it as Cui Shan Temple Bridge.” The bridge stretches from north to south across Zhuangjiaxi Stream and is a single-arch, thin-profile, long-span arch bridge. It has an overall length of 30 meters, with an arch span of 17.5 meters and an arch height of 7 meters. The bridge foundation is built on the bedrock of Jiangcun Ridge, with layered stones forming the arch above, ensuring stability and durability. The arch is closely fitted to the bridge deck, creating a thin structure that reduces weight. The top of the bridge is 3.5 meters wide, while the bridge abutments are as wide as 7 meters, with both sides featuring “octagonal” stair-like supports. The bridge plaque is embedded on both sides of the central arch, inscribed with the bridge name “Ancient Dong Bridge,” the upper inscription reading “Erected in the 13th Year of the Republic of China, Lunar Year of Jiazi,” and the signature “Wang Chonggan of Leishan.”

With a long history and well-preserved structure, Ancient Dong Bridge was relocated to its current site in 2007 due to reservoir construction, making it a rare example of ancient bridge architecture. In September 2010, it was designated as part of the ninth batch of cultural heritage sites protected at the district level by Yinzhou District. Following the 2016 administrative division adjustment of Ningbo City, it was placed under the jurisdiction of Haishu District.

Hengjie Town: Located in the western part of Yinzhou, Hengjie Town is about 10 kilometers from downtown Ningbo, adjacent to the Hangzhou–Ningbo Expressway, 8 kilometers from Ningbo Lishe International Airport, and 40 kilometers from Beilun Port. Local bus routes such as Route 108 provide direct access to Ningbo. The under-construction urban expressway loop passes through the town, and an extension road from Lianfeng Road to Hengjie is under planning. To the east of the town lies the vast alluvial plain of the ancient Guangde Lake, while the west features continuous hills and overlapping ridges. The area boasts fertile farmland, dense forests, and abundant produce, earning it the reputation of the “Land of Peach Blossom Spring.”
