Remnants of Trenches at Huangninonggang

Huangninonggang Trench Site

The Huangninonggang trench site is a cultural heritage relic under the protection of Haishu District.

The Huangninonggang trench site is located in the mountain valley of Turtle Rock in Xiatang Natural Village, Dajiao Village, Zhangshui Town, Haishu District, Yinzhou. According to local villagers, the Huangninonggang trenches were dug by the Kuomintang during the War of Resistance against Japan to counter the Japanese army. After the Japanese entered Zhangshui, the KMT dug trenches on Turtle Rock to prevent further advancement of the enemy into the village. The area features rugged terrain and an open line of sight, making it a strategic vantage point for observing enemy movements.

The trenches run from north to south, with a total length of about 3,000 meters, a width of approximately 1 meter, and a depth of around 0.6 meters. To the north of the trenches lies the remnant of a watchtower, with a diameter of about 2.3 meters. To the west, there are two branch trenches, spaced roughly 10 meters apart. Today, the trenches are abandoned, overgrown with fallen leaves and branches, and some sections have been filled in.

The Huangninonggang trench site bears witness to the atrocities committed by the Japanese army during their invasion of China, providing tangible evidence for future generations to understand this period of history. In September 2010, it was designated as part of the ninth batch of district-level cultural relics protected by Yinzhou District. Following the administrative division adjustment of Ningbo City in 2016, it was placed under the jurisdiction of Haishu District.
