Suspension Magnet Bridge

The Suspension Magnet Bridge is a cultural relic protection unit of Haishu District.

The Suspension Magnet Bridge is located at the southern end of Xuan Ci Village, Yinjiang Town, Haishu District. According to the stone tablet, it was originally built during the Tiansheng era of the Song Dynasty and the current bridge was reconstructed in 1916.

This bridge is a single-span flat bridge with stone piers and wooden beams, running from north to south, spanning both banks of the Qingyuan River. It has a total length of 19.45 meters and a width of 4.15 meters, with a clear span of about 12 meters. There are six steps at the western abutment and nine steps at the southern abutment. The bridge is supported by stone abutments, on which eight stone beams, each about 4 meters long, are embedded, cantilevering approximately 0.85 meters. Two horizontal wooden beams are placed at the ends of the stone beams to support the wooden spans. The middle of the bridge serves as a pedestrian walkway, with fixed wooden benches on both sides for travelers to rest. The bridge features five bays of hard-roofed tile-roofed structures, and pavilion-style shelters are built at both ends of the corridor, inscribed with couplets: “A chronicle of the Spring and Autumn period upholds the Han dynasty; the five elements of medicinal herbs benefit people’s livelihood.” “The site lies near the noble residence of the poet Gao; the pavilion faces the Yongfeng Temple by the Buddhist hall.”

Originally, there was an “Ersheng Hall” at the northern abutment, said to be dedicated to worshiping the two sages of literature and martial valor—Confucius and Guan Yu. The “Ersheng Hall” no longer exists, but several stone pillars remain. At the southern abutment, the “Xuan Ci Tea Association Stele” and the “Yinxian County Magistrate Stele” are still preserved.

The Xuan Ci Bridge retains a complete layout and is relatively well-preserved, holding certain historical value. In 2005, it was designated as a district-level cultural relic protection site of Yinzhou District. In July 2014, it was announced as the tenth batch of district-level cultural relic protection units of Yinzhou District. In 2016, following the administrative division adjustment of Ningbo City, it was incorporated into Haishu District.
