Zhao Residence on Zhongying Lane

The Zhao Residence is located at No. 8 Zhongying Lane, Haishu District, Ningbo. In September 1999, it was designated as part of the second batch of municipal-level cultural heritage conservation sites in Ningbo. Built during the Republican era, the main structure faces south. The central axis of the building includes a gatehouse, ceremonial gate, main hall, rear building, and east and west wing rooms. The gatehouse has three bays, with a memorial archway-style ceremonial gate featuring brick carvings. The moon beams are carved with intricate patterns such as squirrels eating grapes, dragon and phoenix heads, lotus pods, bats, as well as elaborate wooden carvings of figure paintings, showcasing significant artistic value.

According to local accounts, the original owner of the residence was surnamed Zhao and was a banker. After the liberation, the residence was once used by the Ningbo Opera School, with the main hall converted into a stage.
