Commander Shen’s Mansion

Commander Shen’s Mansion is located at No. 50 Yongshou Street, Haishu District, Ningbo. In September 1999, it was designated as one of the second batch of municipal-level cultural heritage sites in Ningbo. The main structure faces south and is relatively well-preserved. The horse-head wall on the eastern side of the rear building has been destroyed, and the rear garden has been demolished. It is now a residential property. The owner of Commander Shen’s Mansion, Shen Yuan, styled Zaizhong and also known as Wuting, began his career as a military student. During the Jiaqing era (1796–1820) of the Qing Dynasty, he was commended for his achievements in patrolling the seas and suppressing pirates, and he eventually rose through the ranks to become the Viceroy of the Guangdong Navy.

The residence was expanded by Shen Yuan from a former property owned by the Zheng family. The rear building was reconstructed by Shen. The entire compound exhibits architectural features that blend the late Ming and early Qing styles.
