The Zhu Residence and Zou Residence

The Zhu Residence and Zou Residence are located at Nos. 48, 54, and 62 Sanzhi Street, Haishu District, Ningbo. In September 1999, they were designated as part of the second batch of municipal-level cultural heritage protection sites in Ningbo. These are two separate but adjacent courtyards that share an outer wall. Their main structures both face south, and their southern façades feature three Western-style stone gateways, each leading to a courtyard. The gateways are decorated with triangular patterns, featuring rose-themed tympana, and the arched doorways are topped with brick plaques, though the inscriptions on them are no longer legible.

According to research, the original owner of the properties was Zhu Xiangyun. At the same time, a businessman surnamed Zou, who was a friend of Zhu’s, also built a residence in a modern architectural style, and the two agreed to share the surrounding wall. The layout of the buildings features an alternating Chinese and Western design, which is quite distinctive among modern architecture in the Ningbo area.
