Hong’s Residence on Qingshi Street

Hong’s Residence on Qingshi Street is located at No. 55, 60, and 62 Qingshi Street, Haishu District, Ningbo. In August 2003, it was designated as one of the third batch of municipal-level cultural heritage conservation sites in Ningbo. This Republican-era building has its main structure facing east, while the entrance faces west. Upon entering, there is a traditional three-sided courtyard. The main building features a double-eaved, flush-gable roof structure with cross-shaped dougong brackets, intricately carved bracket arms, and drum-shaped column bases.

Research indicates that the original owner was Hong Chensheng, General Manager and one of the shareholders of Ningbo Taifeng Flour Mill during the Republican era. Taifeng Flour Mill was known as the “half chimney” among the “three and a half chimneys” representing Ningbo’s national industry at the time. The residence boasts an intact layout and refined materials, holding significant cultural heritage value. It also serves as an important clue for exploring the development of Ningbo’s national industry during the Republican period.
