Chen Residence on Guifang Lane

The Chen Residence on Guifang Lane is situated at No. 1, Guifang Lane, Haishu District, Ningbo. In August 2003, it was listed as one of the third batch of municipal-level cultural heritage protection sites in Ningbo. Constructed during the Republican period, the main building faces south and has its entrance on the eastern side of the southern wall. It boasts a stone-framed doorway, with brick-carved floral designs at the top and an inscribed stone plaque reading “颖川望重.” The main structure features a single-eave hipped roof facing south, with shoulder-like fire walls adorned with Guanyin-style crenellations, arched windows, and a post-and-lintel structural system. The second-floor balcony is equipped with iron railings.

According to research, the original owner of the Chen Lu Residence was a renowned Ningbo businessman and owner of the Hefeng Textile Mill during the Republican era. The residence has a complete layout, considerable scale, high-quality materials, and spacious, imposing architecture. It also exhibits a distinctive fusion of Chinese and Western architectural styles, giving it certain historical, scientific, and artistic value.
