Xiongzhen Yongji Bridge and Pavilion

The Yongji Bridge and Pavilion are located on the Nantang River in Xiongzhen Community, Duantang Subdistrict, Haishu District, Ningbo City. In December 2010, they were designated as part of the third batch of municipal-level cultural heritage sites in Haishu District.

The bridge was built in 1930, spanning the Nantang River from east to west. It is a single-arch bridge with piers made of strip stones, and the approaches on both sides are flared in a trumpet shape. The bridge deck is made of reinforced concrete, and the railings consist of rod-shaped cement strips. At the center of each railing is embedded a red terrazzo cement plaque inscribed with the characters “Yongji Bridge” (meaning “Eternal Relief Bridge”), accompanied by an inscription indicating it was newly built by local residents in June of the 19th year of the Republic of China (1930). According to oral accounts, the bridge was funded by a wealthy merchant from Ningbo during the Republican era, whose name has been lost to history. The Yongji Bridge features a solid structure, elegant appearance, high-quality materials, and a confirmed construction date, making it a valuable physical example for studying the history of bridges in Ningbo.

Xiongzhen Community: Located on the southern side of Haishu District, Xiongzhen Community is bordered by the Nantang River to the east, the Hangzhou-Ningbo Expressway interchange to the south, West Huancheng Road to the west, and South Huancheng Road to the north. The community consists of the Mudan Residential Compound, Youngor Residential Compound, Lane 71 Residential Compound, Duan Tang Middle Road, Yujia Village, and Wu Huang Village. It has a total of 2,502 households and over 7,500 residents. It is a typical old residential area and also a neighborhood with a relatively concentrated population of migrant workers.
