Stone Archway in Front of Xu Guilin’s Tomb

The stone archway in front of Xu Guilin’s Tomb is a cultural tourism attraction.

The stone archway in front of Xu Guilin’s Tomb is the memorial archway of the Qing Dynasty “Commendation for Camp Qianzong Xu Guilin.” It is located beside Meiyuan Mountain Villa on Jinyan Temple Mountain in Daqiao Village, Yinjiang Town, Haishu District, Ningbo City. The archway faces south and consists of two sections, positioned along an “N”-shaped spirit way.

The two archways are similar in shape and size, both being double-pillared, pierced-head, “廿”-shaped stone archways. They have a total height of 3.85 meters, a width of 2.85 meters for one bay, and square-rounded pillars with sides of 0.27 meters and rounded edges of 2.5 centimeters. The tops of the pillars are bell-shaped. The lintel of the first archway is inscribed with the honorary title and surname of the deceased: “The Tomb of Xu, the Late Wu Lue Qi Wei of the Camp Qianzong, Honored with the Title of Feng Zhi Daifu and Ministry of Punishments Official, Commended for Righteous Deeds, from Yinxian County.” The second archway is inscribed with “Loves Goodness and Is Generous” on the top beam, with the upper inscription reading “September, the 13th Year of the Daoguang Reign, Qing Dynasty,” and the lower inscription reading “Commendation for Camp Qianzong Xu Guilin.” The upper part originally bore the characters “Imperial Edict,” but the text has now become blurred, while the reverse side is inscribed with “Imperially Commended.”

These two archways feature exquisite architectural structures and outstanding carvings. Each archway’s stone pillars are inscribed with couplets. One of them reads: “Mountains stretch for thousands of miles as if seen at a glance; Virtue and righteousness span a century, hoping to be passed on.” The archways are well preserved today and hold certain historical, artistic, and historical research value. In May 2005, they were designated as a Haishu District-level Cultural Relics Protection Site, and in 2016, they were placed under Haishu District following the administrative division adjustment of Ningbo City.

Daqiao Village: Daqiao Village is located 2.5 kilometers northeast of the People’s Government of Yinjiang Town, covering an administrative area of 2.2 square kilometers. It comprises four natural villages: Daqiao, Zhuji, Chaijia, and Nanao. The village currently has 943.05 mu of arable land, including 668 mu of paddy fields, and 2,097 mu of forested land. There are 432 registered households with a population of 1,024, including 41 Party members, 43 village representatives, and over 1,000 migrant residents.
