Category: Tourist Attractions 👁 100 views
Weng Wenhao's Former Residence, located in Qiyang Shitang Village, Gaoqiao Town, Haishu District, Ningbo City, is an outstanding example of modern architecture. Weng Wenhao (1889–1971), also known as Cunzhang, with the courtesy name Yongni and the pseudonym Junda, was China’s first Ph.D. in geology and one of the founders of modern geography in China. He had profound expertise in geology, authored numerous works, and achieved many “firsts” across various branches of the field. In ore deposit geology, he was the first in China to propose the term “metallogenic series,” opening up new directions for mineral exploration. In seismic geology, he was the first scholar to study China’s earthquake geology. In structural geology, he was the earliest to explore the developmental history of China’s landforms and proposed the theory of the existence of the Yanshan Movement in China. In orography, he accurately summarized the causes of China’s topography and mountain formation. In geographical science, the New Atlas of the Republic of China (1934), which he co-edited with Ding Wenjiang, was China’s first modern atlas based on measured data, using contour lines and layer-colored mapping.
