Hidden Immortal Bridge

Hidden Immortal Bridge is located in Hengjie Village, Hengjie Town, Haishu District, Ningbo City. The bridge was originally built during the Yuandade era and was reconstructed in the ninth year of the Qing Tongzhi reign.

Hidden Immortal Bridge spans north-south at the western end of the Middle Pond River in west Yin County. Originally a two-pier, three-arch stone beam flat bridge, a nearby defunct Guangde Lake Bridge was later dismantled and relocated to connect to the north side of Hidden Immortal Bridge, making it now a four-pier, five-arch flat beam bridge. To this day, the bridge still retains two inscribed names: one reading “Hidden Immortal Bridge” and the other “Guangde Lake Bridge.” The bridge is 18.55 meters long and 2.92 meters wide, with railings 0.47 meters high, all constructed from locally sourced Guangxi stone. The connections between the railings and the balusters are all crafted using mortise-and-tenon joints, giving the structure remarkable sturdiness. The bridge piers are built from long stone blocks, finely crafted and neatly laid. The upstream-facing side of the western pier features pointed cutwaters designed to reduce the force of floodwaters. This bridge is one of the better-preserved ancient bridges in the Yinzhou area. It was designated as a Yinzhou District-level cultural heritage protection site in May 2005, and was incorporated into Haishu District following the 2016 administrative division adjustment of Ningbo City.
