The Renowned Pagoda

The Renowned Pagoda, commonly known as the "Tianfeng Pagoda," is located within the Zhaohui Temple in Lin Village, Hengjie Town, Haishu District, Ningbo City. This stone structure has inscriptions on all six sides, which were first carved during the Han Dynasty and recarved in November of the fifth year of the Ming TianShun era (1461).

Originally, the pagoda stood at the southern end of Wuling Bridge nearby. It was entirely constructed from stone, composed of three sections, each topped with a decorative finial. Only one section remains today, with its top destroyed. It stands 1.17 meters high, 0.28 meters wide on each side, and 0.56 meters in diameter. Shaped like a hexagonal prism, each face is inscribed with small regular-script characters—content from the Dhāraṇī Sutra, along with the inscription: “Originally built in the Han Dynasty, restored in the Song, and renovated during the Ming and Qing Dynasties.” On two opposite faces, there are carved seated Buddha images, each 0.38 meters tall and 0.22 meters wide. These carvings feature openwork techniques and are exquisitely and delicately crafted. The pagoda holds certain historical and artistic value. In May 2005, it was designated as a cultural relic protection site at the Yinzhou District level, and in 2016, following the administrative division adjustment of Ningbo City, it was placed under the jurisdiction of Haishu District.

Hengjie Town: Located in the western part of Yinzhou, Hengjie Town is about 10 kilometers from downtown Ningbo. It is adjacent to the Hangzhou–Ningbo Expressway, 8 kilometers from Ningbo Lishe International Airport, and 40 kilometers from Beilun Port. Local bus routes such as Route 108 provide direct access to Ningbo. The under-construction urban expressway runs through the town, and the extension of Lianfeng Road to Hengjie is currently under planning. To the east of the town lies the ancient Guangde Lake sedimentary plain, vast and boundless, while to the west are rolling hills and rugged mountains. The area boasts fertile farmland, dense forests, and abundant natural resources, earning it the reputation of a “Land of Peach Blossoms.”
