Former Site of the Inaugural Meeting of the Democratic Government of Yin County

The former site of the inaugural meeting of the Democratic Government of Yin County was originally Meiyao Primary School (Jing'er Primary School), privately founded by the villager Ying Wensheng and his son Ying Guixin in the late period as a school blending Chinese and Western architectural styles. In 1941, after Ningbo fell to Japanese occupation, the invaders took over Meiyao and used the primary school as their garrison, severely damaging the school’s facilities and teaching equipment. In the spring and summer of 1942, the Japanese withdrew from Meiyao, and the school reopened. In the autumn, the Chinese Communist Party assigned underground party member Chen Luoning to serve as the school principal, organizing teachers and students to carry out anti-Japanese salvation activities. On May 2, 1945, the Democratic Government of Yin County held a meeting here to inaugurate the county government and swear in the county magistrate. In the summer of 1949, Ningbo was liberated, and in 1952, the school was taken over by the state and became a public institution.

This historical site bears witness to the people of Yin County’s struggle for national liberation and for freedom and happiness, holding significant historical value. It was designated as a cultural relics protection site at the district level of Yin County in August 2007, and was placed under the jurisdiction of Haishu District following the 2016 administrative division adjustment of Ningbo.
