Goujing Pond

Goujing Pond is located in Beidu Natural Village, Chehedu Village, Shiqi Subdistrict, Haishu District, Ningbo City. It is a downstream auxiliary project of the Tashan Weir, serving to separate fresh water from brackish water in the river. Exposed to the impact of tidal surges from the river on the outside and containing the flow of the large lake on the inside, it earned the name “Goujing Pond” (meaning “Dog’s Neck Pond”) due to its shape resembling a dog’s neck. According to historical records in the “Water Conservancy Annals,” since its construction, it has undergone three major renovations—in the 10th year of the Kangxi Emperor’s reign, the 25th year of the Qianlong Emperor’s reign, and the 11th year of the Jiaqing Emperor’s reign. Its foundation stones remain solid to this day. The existing section of the pond stretches approximately 645 meters and is entirely built with long flagstones, arranged in an interlocking pattern. About every 2 meters, stone spikes are tightly fixed in place. The pavement stones are around two meters in length and 0.5 meters in width, fitted together with a concave-convex interlock.

Goujing Pond remains a strategically important site today. Due to the narrow distance between the river and the sea, even though the Jiaokou Reservoir has been built, the impact of tidal surges is still severe. As such, the pond continues to hold significant value. In August 2007, it was designated as a cultural heritage conservation site at the Yinzhou District level. Following the 2016 administrative division adjustment of Ningbo City, it was placed under the jurisdiction of Haishu District.
