Yuehu Academy

Yuehu Academy: Also known as Wenchang Shrine or Wenchang Pavilion, Yuehu Academy is located within Wenchang Park in Buxiang Village, Zeguo Town. It earned its name because it sits by the Longze River, which wraps around it like a crescent moon, with the academy standing proudly in the middle. Originally built in the ninth year of the Xianfeng reign during the Qing Dynasty (1859) and completed in the second year of the Tongzhi reign (1863), it is a typical southern-style courtyard building. Due to site constraints, the academy faces north. It measures 33.64 meters from north to south and 36.52 meters from east to west. The layout is symmetrical along the central axis, which features, in sequence, an entrance hall, a main hall, and wing rooms on both sides. The north side has a three-bay entrance hall, while the south features a five-bay main hall, with wing rooms on either side. Corridors connect the main hall and the wing rooms, with a central courtyard in between. The east and north sides of the academy border the river, and there is a water gate on the east side, complete with river steps for access, integrating with the waterway to form part of the river transport system. Yuehu Academy is the only surviving ancient academy in Wenling and one of the few remaining ancient academies in Zhejiang Province. Its layout remains intact, with well-preserved traditional architectural features and distinctive local character. Its location reflects the charm of a water town and serves as a fine example of Jiangnan-style riverside architecture.

Buxiang Village: Buxiang Village is located to the north of Zeguo Town, bordered by Wenchang Road to the east, Xingfu East Road to the south, Dingzi Street Neighborhood to the west, and Xiazhangqiao Village to the north. It has a total population of 576 people, comprising 217 households, and includes 5 villager groups. The village has 21 Party members and 33 villager representatives. In recent years, the village’s leadership has focused on the overall goals of “ensuring a comfortable life, fostering civilized rural customs, maintaining clean village surroundings, and promoting democratic management.” They have consistently advanced the development of the new countryside in sync across economic, political, cultural, and Party organization building aspects.
