No. 11, Lane 4, Majia Lane, Xinhe is located at No. 11, Lane 4, Majia Lane, Xicheng Ju, Xinhe Town, Wenling City, Taizhou, Zhejiang Province. Commonly known as "Majiali," it is believed to have been built during the Republican era based on local accounts and architectural style. The house faces south and originally consisted of a two-courtyard layout. Currently, only the entrance gate, east and west wing rooms, hallway, and parts of the rear structure remain. It is 26.03 meters long from east to west and 42.04 meters long from north to south, covering an area of 1,094.3 square meters. The entrance gate is constructed in an eight-character brick design, with a door frame inlaid with a bluestone couplet that reads: “The path connects to Dragon Mountain, green stretching north of the wall; the gate encircles battlements, auspiciousness ushering in the southern breeze.” Above the lintel is a bluestone plaque inscribed with four characters: “Xicheng Bieye” (Western City Retreat). The gate is adorned with molded patterns of various flowers, figures, and marine life. The east and west wing rooms are each three-bay, double-eave, hip-and-gable roof buildings. The hallway is a seven-bay, single-eave, hip-roof structure, with the central and side bays being single-story and the wings being two-story. The central and side bays combine raised-beam and through-tenon construction, featuring a seven-rafter beam system with front and rear corridors supported by eight pillars. The western three bays of the hallway have been modified. Most of the rear courtyard wing rooms and main house have also been altered. There is one well each in the front and rear courtyards. The entrance gate of this residence is the best-preserved and most distinctive feature, serving as valuable physical evidence for the study of local architecture from that period.
