Lang'ao Bridge

Lang'ao Bridge is a cultural heritage site protected at the municipal level in Wenling City.

Lang'ao Bridge is located in Liufen Village, Chengbei Subdistrict, Wenling City, Taizhou, Zhejiang Province. According to the Guangxu Edition of the Taiping County Annals, the bridge was originally built as the Lang'ao Sluice in the 11th year of the Daoguang reign (1831). Later, because the sluice hindered drainage, it was converted into a three-arch stone bridge. Lang'ao Bridge runs from north to south, spanning Machegang, and is composed of a flat bridge connected to an arched bridge. The flat bridge was added in modern times, measuring 31.5 meters in length and 3.1 meters in width, with an area of 97.65 square meters. The arched bridge is 37.27 meters long and 4.45 meters wide, with a total area of approximately 306 square meters. The center of the bridge deck features a platform, with a carved lotus design in the middle. Stone balusters and railings stand on both sides of the bridge deck. The tops of the balusters are carved with lotus patterns, among others. The bridge body is constructed from stacked stone blocks and is inlaid with couplets. The arches are built using the method of longitudinal jointing with parallel courses. The entire bridge is structurally intact, aesthetically pleasing, and is a typical example of Wenling’s sluice bridges.

Chengbei Subdistrict is situated at the northern gateway of Wenling City. The area features flat terrain and smooth rivers, offering convenient land and water transportation. Major roads such as the Dashiyi First-Class Highway, Zetai First-Class Highway, and the provincial Zekan Road run through the district, giving it a notably advantageous location. It is widely known as a “land of fish and rice, a city of commerce, and the capital of the footwear industry.” The subdistrict covers a total area of 12.2 square kilometers, governs 16 administrative villages and 1 neighborhood committee, has a permanent population of 19,396, and hosts over 40,000 migrants. There are 48 Party branches and 962 Party members in total.
