The Sanichiku Cave Village Housing Complex is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

The Sanichiku Cave Village Housing Complex is located in Sanichiku Village, Daxi Town, Wenling City, Taizhou, Zhejiang Province. The name “Sanichiku” comes from the three ponds within the village—First Pond, Middle Pond, and Fannuotou Pond—as well as a cave located behind the village. The large housing complex was built in the 1970s and strictly constructed according to a planned layout over a span of three years. A 500-meter-long artificial river was dug at the center of the village. The houses were built along the river, following its course. Each large housing unit is neatly and orderly arranged on both sides of the river, all facing south. Each housing unit consists of nine rooms, and there are a total of 32 such units. The entire complex covers an area of 35,304.92 square meters. Each room includes a building with upstairs living quarters, a flat roof, a front yard, and a rear passage, measuring approximately 23 meters in total length. The buildings are 8 meters high and 3.3 meters wide. The upper levels served as living spaces, the flat roofs were used for daily activities, and the front yards were designated for drying crops. The construction made use of locally sourced materials, including Changyu stone slabs, stone pillars, and locally fired bricks, reflecting the architectural characteristics of residential buildings in Wenling at that time. More than 30 years later, the surrounding areas of the houses have retained their original style and design. As you walk along the riverside path, the towering trees along the water reflect in the clear river, and the breeze creates ripples on the surface, offering a truly enchanting scene.

Sanichiku Village: Sanichiku Village is located in the eastern part of Daxi Town, Wenling City, covering an area of 0.7 square kilometers. It currently has 354 households, a population of 1,144, and 37 Party members. In 2014, the village collective economy generated an income of 250,000 yuan, and the per capita income of rural residents was 27,489 yuan. Situated in a plain and water-network region, the village gets its name from the three ponds within it—First Pond, Middle Pond, and Fannuotou Pond—as well as a cave located behind the village.
