Moon Gate Bridge is a cultural heritage site protected by Wenling City.
Moon Gate Bridge is located in Henghuqiao Village, Chengdong Subdistrict, Wenling City, Taizhou, Zhejiang Province. Commonly known as Henghuqiao, the bridge runs east-west, spanning Henghu Lake. Based on its architectural style and decorative motifs, it is believed to have been built during the Qing Dynasty. [text truncated] The bridge features 16 steps on the eastern side and 15 steps on the western side, symbolizing the saying "the moon is roundest on the sixteenth day of the month." The railings on both sides of the bridge are adorned with carvings of floral patterns, ruyi motifs, and geometric designs, while the column capitals are decorated with lotus motifs. Compact and exquisitely crafted, the bridge embodies the charm of the Jiangnan water town aesthetic and serves as a symbolic landmark in the region, holding significant cultural and historical value.
Chengdong Subdistrict: Situated in the central eastern urban area of Wenling City, Chengdong Subdistrict covers an area of 42.6 square kilometers and administers 44 administrative villages and 4 residential communities. By the end of 2013, it had a total resident population of 53,000, with nearly 80,000 migrant residents. It is an integral part of the National Sustainable Development Experimental Zone, the National Eco-Demonstration Zone, and the Provincial Economic Development Zone.
