Xilu Rest House in Central Garden Lane is a cultural heritage site protected at the municipal level in Wenling.
Xilu Rest House in Central Garden Lane is located at No. 19, Central Garden Lane, Taiping Subdistrict, Wenling City, Taizhou, Zhejiang Province. Judging from its architectural style, it was built during the Republican era. The building faces south and is constructed of brick and stone. It has a width of three bays totaling 14.31 meters and a depth of 11.15 meters, covering an area of 159.56 square meters. It is a two-story structure with European-style imitation architecture. The exterior walls are built with plain brickwork. The central bay serves as the entrance, featuring square brick pillars. The front façade of the eastern bay is designed in a pentagonal shape, protruding from the other two bays. The rooftop is designed as a terrace, with a Guanyin-dou-style screen at the back. The window and door lintels of the rest house are decorated with triangular patterns.
Xilu Rest House – The brick wall is enclosed with a brick gate on the south side, inscribed with the characters “Xilu” (Rest House). The building is uniquely styled, and the garden environment is tranquil, making it the best-preserved Republican-era European-style structure in Wenling.
Taiping Subdistrict: Located in the central-southern part of Wenling City on the southeastern coast of Zhejiang Province, Taiping Subdistrict was historically known as Quanxi. From December 1469, when the county was established in the fifth year of the Ming Dynasty’s Chenghua reign, until February 1994, when it was restructured from a county into a city, it has always been the seat of the city (county) government. It serves as the political, economic, and cultural center of Wenling, enjoying a prominent geographical advantage. In February 2001, the town was restructured into a subdistrict, currently governing 14 communities and 19 administrative villages, covering an area of 34.7 square kilometers with a permanent population of 96,000.
