Xiaonanmen City Gate
Xiaonanmen City Gate is a cultural relic protection unit of Wenling City.
Xiaonanmen City Gate is located in Xiaonanmen Village, Taiping Subdistrict, Wenling City, and is one of the six city gates of the ancient county town. According to the Jiāqìng Tàipíng Xiàn Zhì (Jiāqìng-era Annals of Tàipíng County), in the eighth year of the Zhèngdé era (1514), Magistrate Zhù Hóngshū established the “six gates,” with the southwestern one being Xiaonanmen. During the Jiāqìng era, Magistrate Zēng Cáihàn built a gatehouse atop the gate. It underwent multiple restorations during the Qing Dynasty. The gate faces the southwest, with an entrance that is 2.6 meters high, 2.1 meters wide, and 8.2 meters deep, covering an area of 17.22 square meters. The two walls of the entrance are built with strip stones, featuring two opposing gate slots and an arched top. The rest of the city wall and other gates have been demolished, leaving only this gate intact. Xiaonanmen City Gate is a landmark structure from Wenling’s establishment as a county during the Ming Dynasty and holds significant historical value.
Xiaonanmen Village: Xiaonanmen Village is located in the southern part of the suburban management area of Taiping Subdistrict. The village covers an area of approximately 1.1 square kilometers, including 167 mu of hills and 1,650 mu of forested land. It has a total of 447 households and a population of 1,202, among which 1,157 are agricultural residents and 45 are non-agricultural. The village leadership consists of 6 members, with 36 Party members and 28 village representatives. It administers 12 villager groups, and all types of village-level organizations are well-established.
