Cliff Carvings at Taxia
The cliff carvings at Taxia are located on the southern slope of Shadai Mountain in Taxia Village, Taiping Subdistrict, Wenling City, Taizhou, Zhejiang Province. Partway up the mountain, four characters reading “Tianzhu Qiguan” (Marvelous Sight of the Heavenly Pillar) are horizontally carved into the rock face in regular script, each character measuring approximately 0.8 meters in diameter, covering an area of about 2 square meters. To their right are vertically inscribed the words “Written by Yu Zi Yi of Wukai,” and to their left, “The Mid-Autumn Month of the Dingyou Year in the Wanli Era, Auspicious Day.” Yu Zi Yi was the magistrate of Wenling County during the Ming Dynasty, hailing from Wukai Wei. The Wanli Dingyou Year corresponds to 1597. These cliff inscriptions serve as an important historical basis for the establishment of Wenling County during the Ming Dynasty and hold significant cultural heritage value.
