This architectural complex is a clan-based settlement of the Zhu family. Heyang Village is surrounded by mountains on three sides and faces water on one side, stretching approximately 730 meters from east to west and about 500 meters from north to south, covering an area of around 0.4 square kilometers. It was first established during the Five Dynasties period and was planned and rebuilt during the Yuan Dynasty. Its rural architecture boasts a long history, grand scale, rational layout, and unique style. It serves as an important example for studying the site selection, planning, construction, and management of clan-based villages, as well as rural architecture, clan rituals, and folk culture, and holds significant historical, artistic, and scientific value.

The overall preservation of the rural architecture of Heyang Village is relatively intact. The existing water systems and streets largely maintain the layout from the Yuan Dynasty reconstruction. There are over 1,500 buildings dating from the Ming, Qing, and Republican periods, more than 30 well-preserved ancient residences, and over 10 ancestral halls. In 1995, it was listed as a fourth-batch county-level cultural relics protection unit; in 2000, it was designated as a Zhejiang Provincial Historical and Cultural Preservation Village; in 2011, it was included in the sixth batch of Zhejiang Provincial Cultural Relics Protection Units; and in May 2013, it was added to the seventh batch of National Key Cultural Relics Protection Units.
