Buxu Pavilion

Buxu Pavilion stands atop Buxu Mountain, behind the Dinghu Peak. Legend has it that when the pavilion was built, stone inkstones and brushes were unearthed—possibly offerings to deities during ancient sky worship rituals.

Buxu Pavilion is the best place to take in the breathtaking views of the immortal mountains. To the west, Dinghu Lake lies below, Guli Mountain towers above, and villages such as Sunchuan and Qianhu are clearly visible in between, creating an otherworldly, heavenly atmosphere as if separated from the mortal realm. The Dinghu Peak itself rises majestically from deep within the earth, shaped like a towering square pillar. Its imposing presence is as grand as described by Xie Lingyun in his “Annotations to the Mountain Dwelling Fu”: “A square stone ten thousand zhang high, beneath which flows a long stream, also part of the Jinyun mountain range.”

To the east, Gaotian Terrace lies ahead and Ma’an Mountain rises above, as if in the ninth heaven, presenting an even more spectacular sight. To the north, the mountains twist like dragons and snakes, with misty villages and evening trees, extraordinarily beautiful; the craggy Tieshi Fortress can also be faintly made out. The meandering Golden Stream, like silk or ribbon, winds its way around, adding even more charm.

To the south, the various immortal mountains of Xiandu stretch out horizontally, with Paradise Mountain ahead and the mountain breeze rustling through the pine trees.
