Suichang Forest Park

Suichang Forest Park is located in Suichang County, Zhejiang Province, covering a total area of 16,212 hectares. It is 60 kilometers from Longyou Station on the Zhejiang–Jiangxi Railway trunk line and about three hours' drive from downtown Hangzhou.

The park enjoys a pleasant climate and superior ecological environment. According to surveys, the park is home to 11 plant species under national protection, including the southern yew, longleaf torreya, tulip tree, fragrant fruit tree, and concave-leaf magnolia, as well as 23 animal species under national protection, such as the black muntjac, leopard, yellow-bellied tragopan, white-necked long-tailed pheasant, black bear, macaque, and small Indian civet.

The entire forest park is divided into two major scenic areas: Baima Mountain and Shenlong Valley.

The Baima Mountain Scenic Area, also known as the current Baima Mountain Forest Park, was established in 1994 with the approval of the Zhejiang Provincial Forestry Department. In December 2001, it was rated as a National AA-level Scenic Spot by the Provincial Tourism Bureau. The Baima Tianting (Heavenly Terrace) attraction within the park was honored as one of the first “Top Ten Scenic Spots in Zhejiang’s Green Valley” by Lishui City in June 2002. This scenic area is located in the western part of Suichang County, covering a total area of 8,497 hectares. It features a blend of peculiar peaks, bizarre rocks, drifting clouds and mist, cascading waterfalls, flowing springs, and rare birds and animals. The main peak stands at an elevation of 1,621 meters, towering majestically. A watchtower and TV transmission tower have been built on the peak, offering a perfect spot to watch the sunrise in the morning and admire the sunset glow in the evening. Additionally, there are 60 other attractions, including the Baima Palace, Baima Lake, Wooden Fish Rock, Hundred-Zhang Waterfall, and Water Curtain Cave, each with its own magical legend, attracting numerous historical figures and tourists from all over. For instance, Zhu Yuanzhang and Tang Xianzu of the Ming Dynasty were said to have visited here out of admiration. Especially notable is that the highest summer temperature in this area is only 29.3°C, making it a famous summer retreat in southern Zhejiang.

The Shenlong Valley Scenic Area is located in the southwestern part of Suichang County, covering a total area of 7,715 hectares. The area boasts vast natural vegetation and well-preserved ecological surroundings. It features the Shenlong Waterfall, known as the highest in Jiangsu and Zhejiang, with a drop of over 300 meters. The sea of clouds creates the ever-changing Tou Shu Rock, while massive, naturally formed stone pillars stand tall. The area also includes the Xianggang Strategic Pass, where General Su Yu first arrived in Suichang and won his first battle against the enemy. The scenic area has more than 30 attractions in total. The abundant forests, landforms, bodies of water, and cultural landscapes make the mountains and peaks vibrant and full of charm.
