Tomb of Su Yu

The Tomb of Su Yu is a cultural tourism attraction and a classic red tourism site.

In 1985, the Suichang County Government developed a park on Moonlight Mountain in Wangcunkou and erected a memorial pavilion for Comrade Su Yu, with an inscription on the monument authored by Ye Fei, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress. In 1935, Su Yu and Liu Ying led the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army Advance Detachment into Zhejiang, establishing a guerrilla base centered in Wangcunkou, Suichang, in southwestern Zhejiang, composing a remarkable chapter in the three-year guerrilla war in southern Zhejiang. On May 15, 1984, in accordance with Comrade Su Yu’s will, representatives and his children escorted part of his ashes to Wangcunkou, Suichang, and scattered them on Moonlight Mountain.

Su Yu

(1907–1984)

Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, Marshal of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, Chief of the General Staff.

A native of Huitong County, Hunan Province, of the Dong ethnic group, he was born on August 10, 1907, in Fengmushujiao Village, Fulong Township, Huitong County. In 1926, he entered the Second Normal School of Changde, Hunan Province, where he actively engaged in revolutionary activities. He joined the Communist Youth League of China in November of the same year. At the critical moment of the failure of the Great Revolution, he resolutely laid down his pen and took up arms.
