Ancient Architectural Complex of Changlian Village

Changlian Village is located at the eastern gateway of Suichang County. It was among the first well-off villages in Suichang and was named a Civilized Village of Lishui City in 2005. With a history of over 1,100 years, Changlian Village boasts profound historical and cultural heritage as well as beautiful natural landscapes.

The village is a place of outstanding natural beauty and cultural significance, blessed with picturesque scenery and exceptional tourism resources. It is recognized as a national AA-level tourist attraction. The unique cultural landscape includes ancient streets and lanes; simple yet elegant Ming and Qing dynasty architecture with white walls and black tiles; and the warm, peaceful local customs. Nestled among mountains and beside the meandering Lian Stream, the homes of Changlian are built against hills and along the water, featuring numerous houses with exquisitely carved beams and painted rafters. Local folklore tells captivating tales such as the battle between the turtle and the snake, the red dragon of Turtle Mountain Pool, and Jade Spring. Among its highlights are the ancient structures built during the Ming dynasty, notably the Anshan Academy, the Zheng Clan Ancestral Hall, and the former residence of Zheng Binghou. These buildings are renowned for their grandeur and have retained their charm for over 400 years. They represent one of the most distinctive and best-preserved clusters of Ming and Qing architecture in Suichang County. The various architectural complexes form self-contained systems that contain rich historical information and deep cultural significance.
