Former Site of the Suichang Branch of the Communist Party of China

The Former Site of the Suichang Branch of the Communist Party of China (Quanhu Temple) is located in Dazhe Town, Suichang County, Lishui City, Zhejiang Province. Originally the site of the Second Higher Primary School of Suichang County, it has been renovated and no longer resembles its original appearance. However, it authentically records the heroic deeds of the revolutionary pioneers of that era.

Influenced by the new ideas and culture spread during the May Fourth Movement, a strong response was sparked across Suichang County, giving rise to a number of progressive youths such as Tang Gongxian and Xie Yunchao. In December 1926, Tang Gongxian and others returned to Suichang to carry out party-building activities. In January 1927, at the former site of this primary school and at great personal risk, Tang Gongxian and others established the Party branch — the first in southwestern Zhejiang. Its founding marked the planting of the first seed of revolution by the Communist Party of China in southwestern Zhejiang; it heralded the beginning of a revolutionary conflagration in the region that would soon spread and merge into the blazing fire of China’s national revolution.

Dazhe Town: In the early days after its liberation in 1949, it retained the name Dazhe Township and was under the jurisdiction of Dazhe District. In 1951, Dazhe Township was divided into Dazhe and Dantian townships. In 1956, Dantian Township was merged back, along with the areas of Lathe, Qianshan, and Dongkeng from Yanxia Township, forming what was called Dazhe Township, directly administered by the county. In 1958, Wangcao in Dazhe Township was transferred to Shilian Township, and Dazhe was divided into three management areas under Guangming Commune: Dazhe, Datian, and Shangdan. In 1959, Guangming Commune was renamed Dazhe Commune. In 1961, the management areas were renamed as communes, and the communes were renamed as districts.
