Former Site of the Provincial Experimental Agricultural School

The former site of the Provincial Experimental Agricultural School is a cultural relic protection unit of Zhejiang Province.

The former site of the Zhejiang Provincial Experimental Agricultural School is located west of Hengtang Reservoir in Tangya Town. The school was founded in 1933 by Lan Jin, a professor at the College of Agriculture of Peking University and a well-known soil scientist. From 1935 onward, it was called the Provincial Jinhua Experimental Agricultural Vocational School and had an affiliated elementary school. After the fall of Jinhua in May 1942, the school was disbanded. It reopened in 1946, was renamed the “Zhejiang Provincial Agricultural Technical School” after the liberation in 1949, and in December 1967, the school was relocated from Tangya to the lakeside of Huhaitang in the urban area, with the original site subsequently converted into a regional May Seventh Cadre School until 1973, when it was restored as an agricultural school. Today, it remains largely unused.

The former school site covers an area of 825 mu, with a built-up area of over 20,000 square meters. It boasts a grand scale, majestic presence, intact layout, and largely retains the typical architectural style of schools from the Republican era. It is quite rare for a provincial school of this size from the Republican period to be so well preserved to this day in our province, giving it significant historical and cultural value.

Tangya Town: Tangya Town is located in the eastern part of Jindong District, about 15 kilometers from downtown Jinhua. It borders Xiaoshun Town to the east, Dongxiao Subdistrict to the west, the Yiwu River to the southeast (across which lies Lipu Town), and Chaizhai Town to the north. The town administers 48 administrative villages, has a population of 29,000, and covers an area of 53.13 square kilometers. It is recognized as a provincially designated Strong Education Town and a “Satellite Town” of Jindong District. In recent years, Tangya Town has vigorously implemented four major strategies—“Openness-led Development, Industrialization, Urbanization, and Urban-Rural Integration”—achieving significant economic and social progress.
