Hengdian Guangzhou Street Scenic Area

The Guangzhou Street Scenic Area was built in 1996 to support director Xie Jin’s historical epic film The Opium War and is the birthplace of Hengdian World Studios. In 1998, the adjacent Hong Kong Street was added, featuring a network of ancient streets crisscrossing each other and the Pearl River flowing through the area, authentically recreating the street scenes of 19th-century Guangzhou and Hong Kong. Guangzhou and Hong Kong stand side by side and border each other within Hengdian.

The Guangzhou Street Scenic Area boasts picturesque views, including an artistically reconstructed "19th-century southern Guangdong cityscape of Guangzhou," artificial lakes representing the "Pearl River" and "inner-city canals of Guangzhou," as well as restored landscapes such as the "Thirteen Hongs" and "Tianzi Wharf." It vividly depicts the urban life and streetscape of Guangzhou around the time of the Opium War, serving as a "genre painting" for modern visitors to observe the social and urban scenes of Guangzhou during the Qing Dynasty.
