The China Women and Children Museum serves as a science education base and a patriotic education base.

The museum is located on the north side of the main thoroughfare of East Chang'an Avenue in Beijing, with a construction area of approximately 35,000 square meters.

As a museum themed around women and children, the China Women and Children Museum aims to collect, exhibit, and research cultural relics related to women and children, promote the development of women and children’s causes, and serve the public. To date, the museum has collected nearly 30,000 items of various kinds. The inaugural exhibition features a large number of objects, photographs, and works of art and culture that are most representative of women and children, all closely related to their production and daily life.

The rich collection of cultural relics and comprehensive exhibitions reflect the living conditions, status changes, cultural customs, outstanding figures, and social contributions of Chinese women and children throughout various historical periods, creating a broad panorama of their social and family life across five millennia and involving all sectors such as economy, politics, military, culture, education, science and technology, health, and sports. For female visitors, young audiences, and visitors from all walks of life who wish to understand the historical changes of Chinese women and children, the China Women and Children Museum is an encyclopedia. For professionals working with women and children and those concerned about their welfare, the museum serves as a database for studying the past, understanding the present, and exploring the future of women and children’s development. Professionals and researchers from all fields can gain new insights and discoveries through the perspectives of women and children presented at the museum.

The architectural design of the museum is elegant, dynamic, and fashionable. The wavy curves on the roof symbolize the gracefulness of women. The building’s color scheme is based on white metal panels, complemented by light gray glass, exuding an air of elegance and purity.

The exhibition design is harmonious and unified with the overall style of the main museum building. It breaks away from traditional and dull display modes, utilizing a variety of forms and methods such as panel displays, artifact exhibitions, sand tables, phantom imaging, virtual reality videos, digital films, role-playing experiences, hands-on activities, and traditional games. These create diverse exhibition atmospheres, offering visitors an experiential journey that is accessible, engaging, and interactive, appealing to both refined and popular tastes.

The museum is equipped with advanced facilities and offers a comfortable and elegant environment. It features well-developed systems for temperature and humidity control, spatial sound absorption, security technology, fire monitoring and automatic fire extinguishing, building automation, integrated audio and lighting control, information management, and environmental protection and energy-saving technologies. Functional spaces including the lobby, multi-purpose hall, audiovisual room, and nursing room provide visitors with a relaxing, convenient, and safe environment for touring, learning, and leisure.

The China Women and Children Museum is affiliated with the All-China Women’s Federation. The establishment of the museum is a significant milestone in advancing the development of women and children’s causes in China, and a shared aspiration of veteran revolutionaries and several generations of women and children’s workers. During the preparatory process, the All-China Women’s Federation received strong support from women’s federations at all levels, women’s organizations, and various sectors of society, conducting an effective attempt at socially engaged museum development. Part of the museum’s funding came from government support, while the majority was raised through donations solicited by the federation’s foundations. The collection of artifacts was supported by various government departments, cultural and museum institutions, branches of the People’s Liberation Army, and people from all walks of life.

The completion of the China Women and Children Museum reflects the attention, care, and support of the Party, the government, and all sectors of society toward the cause of women and children, and marks the rapid development of women and children’s causes within the context of socialism with Chinese characteristics. We will strive to build an international, modern, and distinctive museum, making positive contributions to inheriting outstanding national culture and promoting social harmony and progress.
