Wu Jianxiong’s Tomb Garden is a cultural tourism attraction.

Wu Jianxiong’s Tomb Garden is located beside the Wisteria Pavilion at Mingde High School in Liuhe Town. After her passing on February 17, 1997, the tomb garden was built within Mingde High School by the end of May 1998 according to her wishes. It was designed by the Southeast University School of Architecture and reviewed by world-renowned architect I. M. Pei. Yang Zhenning inscribed the five large characters “Wu Jianxiong’s Tomb Garden,” while Tsung-Dao Lee wrote an inscription for the site. Wu Jianxiong was a world-renowned contemporary physicist, born in Liuhe on May 31, 1912. In 1958, she was elected as a member of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences. In 1975, she received the National Medal of Science awarded by U.S. President Gerald Ford and was also elected the first female president of the American Physical Society that same year. In 1981, the President of Italy awarded her the “Women of Achievement Award.” In 1991, she was honored with the Pupin Medal, which represents the highest distinction in science and engineering.
