Fengmen

Located to the east of the city and south of Xiangmen. Originally named Fengmen, after Fengyu Mountain, it was also called (Fish Characters)men and (Fish Character)men due to the presence of (river dolphins, likely finless porpoises) in the nearby river. It was later renamed Fengmen because the area had many ponds and was abundant in feng (water bamboo, or Zizania aquatica). The gate has been rebuilt multiple times throughout the dynasties. In the early Qing Dynasty, the gate tower was rebuilt, inscribed with the plaque “Clear Stream Reflections,” and a water gate was added. The gate tower was demolished in the 25th year of the Republic of China (1936). The city gate was removed in the 1950s.
