Taihu West Mountain

　West Mountain is located in Taihu Lake, more than 40 kilometers southwest of the ancient city of Suzhou. Covering an area of 79.8 square kilometers, it is the largest island in China’s freshwater lakes. Piaomiao Peak, standing at an elevation of 336.6 meters, is the highest among the seventy-two peaks of Taihu Lake. From the summit, you can overlook the vastness of Taihu Lake, bask in the sun and moonlight, and enjoy the endless misty scenery—it’s truly breathtaking. West Mountain is made more enchanting by Taihu Lake, and Taihu Lake is made richer by West Mountain. The area features undulating mountains, rugged rocks, winding paths leading to secluded spots, and has long been home to eight major scenic views and seven famous attractions, each evoking emotion through landscape. Major sights include Shigong Mountain, Taihu Bridge, Linwu Cave, Luohan Temple, and Taihu Plum Garden. The region is also abundant in local specialties, and the annual West Mountain Plum Blossom Festival attracts numerous visitors.
