Pingmen Bridge

Pingmen is located in the north of Suzhou. It was named after the army of Wu Zixu, who marched out through this gate to defeat the State of Qi and returned triumphantly through the same gate. The ancient Pingmen had been sealed off for a long time but was reopened in 1928 to facilitate traffic. It was demolished in 1958.

In September 2011, the Suzhou municipal government decided to rebuild the Pingmen city wall and relocate the gate westward. The Pingmen section of the wall is an important visual landmark for the South Square of the railway station and a key node along the ancient city scenic protection belt. Its restoration not only showcases the traditional appearance of the ancient city but also provides residents with a new space for leisure, sightseeing, and recreation. Moreover, it highlights the gateway image of the northern entrance to the railway station area.
