Board a richly carved and painted cruise boat and glide along the moat, setting the river aglow with starlight, as if scattering a vibrant dream. The Suzhou Moat was dug during the Spring and Autumn Period by Wu Zixu, a minister of the Wu Kingdom, and the ring-shaped moat around the ancient city preserves abundant historical and cultural heritage. On one side, the city’s trestle paths and railings shine brilliantly under landscape lighting at night, resembling a heavenly palace, while on the other lies the old town area with its traditional whitewashed walls and black-tiled houses. Even in the dark, the ancient charm of the city—willow-lined waters, painted bridges, and elegant drapes—can still be faintly discerned.

Boats run all day, but the night cruise is especially enchanting, with dazzling lights along the shore reflecting on the rippling water and swaying willow branches, perfectly complementing the architecture of Suzhou’s ancient city.
